Mr. Micah is an MMA fighter who moonlights as a model. When he initially contacted me for head shots my first thought was, I could kick this guys ass... then I saw him and rethought my life decisions.
As many of my clients and fans know I am a Marine Corps veteran, and I love Mixed Martial Arts. It is the only sport I watch or give a damn about. While in the Marine Corps I trained as an MCMMAP (Marine Corps Mixed Martial Arts Program) instructor and got a lot of time on the mats while deployed. So I feel like I click with most fighters when we meet, although I don't pretend to know even the basics when I approach a professional who has trained over the course of a lifetime. Actual combat and sports are completely different from one another. A Martial artist does not train to kill, they train to earn points.
Micah is now a close friend who is still an aspiring model and has a passion for dropping people in and out of the octagon. If you're constantly training your body and going through hell to be a badass you might as well have some cool photography to show for it.
I visited Micah at his gym Team Gold to shoot him in action. I used a single Paul C. Buff Alien Bees 800, Vagabond Mini, Century stand, and a Westcott Octa. I like using the Westcott Appollo Brand because of the versatility and ease of use. It's an amazing softbox that breaks down and stores away like an umbrella.
